I was told by a friend that raisins are toxic to dogs. Is that really true? I have feed my dogs grapes in the past and they survived. Is there a process that happens when grapes are dried? If so…..does that mean dried cranberries would be toxic as well?
Hi!
It is very true that raisins are toxic to dogs. It doesn’t have anything to do with the process that happens when grapes turn to raisins though. Grapes are toxic to the dog as well. I have heard it was actually discovered up here in the wine country, Napa, California. Dogs would scavange around the vineyards and get sick. Your dogs were probably not affected too negatively due to the small amount they consumed. Same thing with chocolate, they need to have a lot before it causes serious damage. Thanks for writing!
Best,
Natasha
